How these numbers are calculated: yearly cost = wattage × hours per day × 365 × the average household electricity price. Electricity prices are the Q3 2026 average residential rates (USD) from our sister site’s Home Charging Price Index (36 countries), which is based on GlobalPetrolPrices household electricity data. Real bills vary with your tariff, hardware and usage — use the calculator above with your own rate for a personal figure.
How to Cut the Bill Without Feeling It
- Use sleep aggressively: a PC left on 24/7 at idle wastes more than most people’s gaming sessions cost.
- Cap your frame rate to your monitor’s refresh rate – rendering 300 fps on a 144 Hz screen is pure heat.
- Enable the GPU power limiter: the last 10% of performance often costs 30% more power.
- Laptops are 5-8× cheaper to run than desktop gaming rigs for everyday tasks.
- Unplug chargers and consoles on standby? Modern ones draw under 1 W – focus on the big numbers instead.
