The Same Subscription, 30 Countries: What Netflix, Spotify, Microsoft 365 and Disney+ Really Cost

The same subscription, the same app, the same catalogue — and wildly different prices. We pulled the current price straight from each service’s own country page on 27 July 2026: Netflix in 30 countries, Spotify in 28, Microsoft 365 in 27, Disney+ in 20. Everything below is what the vendor publishes, in the vendor’s own currency, with its source link. No aggregator data, no conversions we cannot defend.

What the numbers actually show

• Streaming is localised. AI is not. OpenAI says it plainly in its own help centre: “All purchases are in USD — we offer local currency billing in a limited set of countries.” Claude Pro is the same $20, with tax added on top. Netflix charges $3-equivalent in Nigeria and $27 in the United States; ChatGPT Plus charges $20 in both. That single design decision makes an AI subscription 17.65% of Nigeria’s GNI per capita and 0.27% of America’s.
• The eurozone breaks the “exchange rates explain it” excuse. Netflix Premium is €23.99 in Ireland and €15.99 in Greece and Cyprus — a 50% spread with one currency. Disney+ Premium, meanwhile, is exactly €15.99 in every eurozone country we checked, while Disney+’s ads tier costs €8.99 in Ireland and €6.99 everywhere else.
• Ireland pays the most in the eurozone on almost everything. Highest Netflix entry plan, highest Netflix top tier, highest Disney+ ads tier and highest Disney+ Standard. Portugal, Greece and Cyprus sit at the other end — Spotify Premium is €8.99 there against €12.99 in Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands.
• Spotify has quietly split its product line by market. India, South Africa and the UAE get a “Premium Platinum” tier that does not exist in Europe or North America — and none of those three markets is offered a Duo or Family plan at all.
• Ad-supported does not mean the same discount everywhere. On Disney+, where all tiers are published per country, tolerating ads saves 44.5% in Australia and 43.8% in Canada but only 25.0% in Ireland and 23.1% in Argentina. And it is not offered at all in Poland, Japan, South Korea or Greece.
• Microsoft dollarises the Gulf. Microsoft’s UAE storefront prices Microsoft 365 in US dollars rather than dirhams, and Microsoft’s own Game Pass country table does the same for the UAE. Elsewhere it prices locally.

Netflix, 30 countries

Spotify Premium, 28 countries

Tier is “Premium Individual” except Japan, India, South Africa and the UAE, where it is sold as “Premium Standard”. South Korea, Indonesia and the Philippines returned server errors on every attempt and are missing rather than estimated.

Microsoft 365 Personal, 27 countries

All from Microsoft’s own per-locale comparison pages, 27 July 2026. Germany and Switzerland sell it as “Single” rather than “Personal”. A higher “Microsoft 365 Premium” tier now exists in several markets ($19.99/month in the US, €22.00 in Germany).

Disney+, 20 countries

The one that is not localised at all: AI subscriptions

ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro both cost $20 a month — $240 a year — in US dollars, worldwide. Because the price is identical everywhere, the affordability gap is exactly the income gap, with no exchange-rate assumption needed. We divide $240 by World Bank GNI per capita (Atlas method, current US$, 2025).

OpenAI has started to break ranks. ChatGPT Go, announced at $8 a month, launched in India in August 2025, spread to 170 more countries, and as of 16 January 2026 is “rolling out everywhere ChatGPT is available”, with pricing OpenAI says is “localized in some markets”. At $96 a year it is 7.06% of Nigerian income instead of 17.65%. Google’s AI plans page, by contrast, is built around a country selector from the start — same product category, opposite pricing philosophy.

What changed in 2025 and 2026

Can you just buy it in a cheaper country?

The terms say no, and two services name VPNs directly. YouTube: “If you misrepresent your location (e.g., use VPN)… your subscription may be subject to cancellation.” Spotify requires you to “only access the version of the Spotify Service offered in your country of residence” and not to “engage in any means to access the Paid Subscription… without paying the applicable price”. Netflix says the country on your account cannot be changed unless you actually move. Microsoft warns that a network masking your location may produce charges different from your real location, and that changing account region can force you to re-buy content you already paid for.

Legitimate relocation is handled, but with friction: Spotify needs a payment method issued in the new country, applies from your next billing date, only activates once you are physically there, and can change both your price and your catalogue. Free Spotify stops working abroad after 14 days. YouTube may cancel if you are away more than 30 days. Netflix operates an EU cross-border portability carve-out. We are documenting the rules, not recommending you break them — the practical takeaway is that regional pricing is enforced through billing country, and that enforcement is the reason the gaps in the tables above persist.

Method, and what we could not verify

Every price was read from the service’s own country page or official help-centre pricing article on 27 July 2026, in local currency, and is linked per row. We did not convert currencies: any cross-currency multiple needs a dated exchange rate, and in Turkey and Argentina a stale rate produces a wildly wrong answer — which is exactly where the most dramatic comparisons would come from. All the multiples we quote are either within one currency (the eurozone) or FX-free by construction (the flat-USD AI subscriptions). This is a living page; prices move, and we re-verify quarterly.
